MGSD Statement Regarding Post on Social Media
Hello Mooresville Community,
This afternoon we were made aware of a social media post made to an account reported to belong to one of our students. The post was a picture depicting two boys attempting to mimic the current events surrounding George Floyd’s death. Neither of the boys in the photograph are Mooresville High School students; however, we immediately reached out to the Mooresville Police Department, and contacted the student, as well as the parents, whose name was associated with the account. While the account holder who posted the photo does share the name of one of our students, an investigation showed that it is not the same person who attends Mooresville High School.
Mooresville Graded School District and Mooresville High School WILL NOT tolerate racism; furthermore, we do not condone the use of the tragedies that have been occurring to people of color throughout this country to further instigate division. We are committed to recognizing and addressing all forms of racism and appreciate the people who reached out and brought the post to our attention so that we could properly investigate it. We ask anyone who sees the post to report it as both “violence” and/or “hate speech” on Facebook and/or “It’s Abusive or Harmful” on Twitter.
