Recognitions

Student of the Month

Each month the Board of Education recognizes a student who makes an impact at their school in a special way. The September 2026 Student of the Month is Colton Pope from NF Woods.

Colton’s journey at Woods is a great example of personal growth, perseverance, and what can happen when a student finds the right environment to succeed. Colton began at Woods Middle School halfway through seventh grade and is now a freshman at Woods High School. During his time at Woods, he has grown tremendously, both academically and personally.

When Colton first came to Woods, he did not enjoy school and struggled to see himself as a successful student. Today, he approaches school with a completely different mindset. He works hard in class, takes pride in his work, and has shown significant academic growth. More importantly, he has developed into a positive, respectful, and dependable young man.

Colton’s impact goes well beyond the classroom. He is kind and respectful to his classmates, makes an effort to include everyone, and is someone his peers can count on. He treats others with compassion and helps create a welcoming environment for everyone at Woods.

Colton represents the very best of what a Woods student can be. His growth is something to be proud of, and we are excited to see where his continued hard work and positive attitude take him. Congratulations, Colton, and thank you for being such a great example for our Woods community!

Artist of the Month

MGSD believes the arts are an important aspect of developing the whole child. We enjoy the opportunity to honor an Artist of the Month at our Board of Education meetings each month. The September 2026 Artist of the Month is Carllee Adams, from NF Woods. She also led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Carllee was chosen as Artist of the Month from NF Woods because of the enthusiasm she brings into the classroom, her love of anything artsy and creative, and the way she connects art to her other classes. Carllee enjoys drawing, painting, sewing, and creating art out of any item she can find. She truly sees the artistic potential in everything around her! One of her future goals is to become a photographer and document the world around us.

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD) Award

MGSD loves recognizing those employees who go Above and Beyond the Call of Duty for our children by representing our core values. The September 2026 ABCD Honoree is Ms. Kelly Pohlman, Teacher's Assistant at NF Woods.

Mrs. Pohlman has taken on a strong leadership role with the team of Teacher Assistants, intentionally building relationships and fostering a collaborative environment focused on how best to support teachers, students, and the school as a whole. She is instrumental in coordinating activities that contribute to the unique culture and positive climate of NF Woods.

Mrs. Pohlman consistently demonstrates a willingness to take on challenging tasks, including those others may be hesitant to undertake, and approaches her work with a strong commitment to the success of the school community. Most importantly, she believes that every student should be individually valued, supported, and given the opportunity to succeed.

This past summer Mrs. Pohlman was instrumental in readying our school for the return of our students. She is creative, organized, flexible, opinionated and full of humor. NF Woods is happy to have her as an integral part of our team.

Academics

NF Woods Middle School Program

NF Woods highlighted its enhanced middle school model designed to seamlessly integrate behavioral support with academic growth. The initiative combines the Teaching Family Model for social-emotional skill building with a mastery-based learning approach that groups students by skill level rather than grade. Through targeted small-group instruction, goal-setting FOCUS blocks, and personalized progress tracking, NF Woods is empowering every student to build the foundational skills needed for high school success.  View the presentation at this link:  NF Woods Middle School Program.
